Tawny Owl survey looking for volunteers

23 Nov 2018 Tawny Owl by John Harding/BTO

As part of Project Owl, the BTO has launched the Tawny Owl Calling Survey to increase the understanding of calling behaviour and distribution of Tawny Owl. It will also look at how urbanisation affects the species. The survey runs until the end of March next year, and involves just 20 minutes a week listening for Tawny Owls at any site, including your garden or local wood.

While the survey focuses on Tawny Owls, records of other owl species noted at the time can be logged on BirdTrack. This is especially useful for records of Long-eared Owl which remains under-recorded in many areas.
