Request for Turtle Dove sightings

20 Jun 2018 Turtle Dove by Jill Pakenham/BTO

Formerly a widespread breeding species in Britain, the Turtle Dove population in Britain has declined by over 90% since 1994. The declines are likely linked to changes in agriculture on their breeding grounds in Europe, as well as hunting pressure in the Mediterranean region and possibly environmental changes in their wintering grounds.

The Rare Breeding Birds Panel (RBBP) is looking to increase their knowledge of the current state of the Turtle Dove population. The panel uses several resources to collect data, with BirdTrack being an important supplier of data. Please do log any sightings you have made of Turtle Dove this spring and summer, preferably with breeding evidence.
