Just when you thought October 2010 couldn't get much better for birds, more than 2,500 Waxwings arrive! In most 'Waxwing winters', the main arrival is in November, or later, so having this many birds in the country before the end of October is exceptional. You can find out more about the influx in the BTO/BirdGuides article or read about the close shave for one Waxwing in Lerwick in the comments added to our Autumnwatch blog.
