Blackcap

Despite being in the grip of another severe winter, one 'summer visitor' is still around: Blackcap. The reporting rate shows this species appearing on about 3% of complete lists and it will be interesting to see if this rises as it did during last January's snow. Over the past 40 years Blackcaps have begun wintering here in considerable numbers. Wintering birds often utilise gardens and this may well account for their increased detectability during hard weather.
