Funding our work

Membership subscriptions and donations help to secure our future. Membership is open to all, and your financial support is a really practical and rewarding way to ensure the BTO’s science continues to contribute to nature conservation.

In the UK, the BTO’s work ensures we have unparalleled knowledge about bird populations that can be used by Government and society to understand much about the health of the environment. Our wildlife monitoring supports the Government’s international and domestic obligations and responsibilities to nature, and in return the Government provides funding through the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) to support our volunteer network of surveyors.

BTO staff also undertake consultancy work and ecological studies for a wide range of private and public sector clients, attracting significant contract income. This funding ensures we continue to employ a strong community of high quality scientists.
