Butterfly Atlas of the Scottish Borders
This excellent book is one of a growing number of county butterfly atlases. Based on information collected by enthusiasts, the atlas presents some 14,615 butterfly records collected from within the 4,742 sq km covered by the Borders. Most (some 82%) come from the period 1995–2006 and so provide an up-to-date picture of the region’s butterflies. As well as introductory sections on the nature of the region, its butterfly habitats and butterfly recording, there are well-presented species accounts and a section on the nature of change in abundance and occurrence. The inclusion of a well-structured gazetteer of butterfly sites makes this a book for visitors to the Borders as well as residents.
