Oriolidae - Orioles

Orioles are amongst the most colourful of birds, with the males of most species being strikingly coloured, often some combination of yellow and black, as is the Golden Oriole of Europe. They evolved in Indonesia and have spread into Africa and Europe, where most species occur in woodland or forest. They are generally solitary and the males have a lovely liquid call.

Only one species, the Golden Oriole, occurs in Britain, with a very few pairs breeding and small number of individuals encountered on passage.
