Scheme Support Officer & Sustainability Officer

Hazel is the lead organiser of Nesting Neighbours, and works on data collection and volunteer communication as Scheme Support Officer for several projects: 

  • Acoustic Pipeline
  • Ringing Scheme
  • Nest Record Scheme

She is also BTO’s Sustainability Officer and author of the Blue Tit Diary.

Interests & Responsibilities

Hazel is responsible for organising Nesting Neighbours. She is the first point of contact for volunteers of the survey, as well as promoting, processing data and producing results.  She supports the Acoustic Pipeline, Ringing Scheme and Nest Record schemes by working on data collection, volunteer communication and licensing among other duties. She is the BTO's Sustainability Officer, working to deliver the BTO’s objectives and initiatives outlined in our Sustainability policy.

Hazel is chair of the BTO Sustainability Group and sits on the CCI Sustainability Group. She is a C Permit bird ringer, spending time monitoring a number of nest boxes in the spring. She is passionate about wildlife and environmental education, working with local groups and communities to share knowledge and inspire the younger generation.

  • BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour with Ecology and Conservation, Anglia Ruskin University, 2009 – 2012
