Donations instead of presents

When it comes to those landmark birthdays and anniversaries, more often than not it is friends and relatives who want to celebrate rather than you!

If you have everything you need and your friends and family are insisting on having a party or buying presents why not ask for donations to be made and use this as an opportunity to raise funds for the BTO?

Whether it's because you love watching the birds in your garden or have a passion for birdwatching, requesting donations instead of material goods is really rewarding for you and those making the gifts. It's  a perfect way to support Britain’s birds and aid their conservation.

''When we celebrated our wedding we suggested that guests might want to support the BTO's Migration Atlas, and particularly the Pink-footed Goose pages, instead of giving us presents. We raised hundreds of pound for the BTO, and each skein of Pink-feet we see is a reminder of a great day. A flock of toasters would have had far less appeal''  - BTO Member

If you would like to use your special occasion - be it a birthday, anniversary, retirement, wedding or even Christmas- as an opportunity to support us, please call our Fundraising Team on 01842 750050 or email fundraising [at] bto.org

Some ways that you could help raise vital funds

Raise money online with a personalised justgiving page and email the link to friends and family.

Collect donations at a celebratory event. Ask friends and family to your celebration and let them know that you will be collecting donations for BTO at your event, so that they come prepared. We can provide promotional material to help you with the event.

Ask friends and family to send their 'gift' directly to:

Fundraising Team,
The British Trust for Ornithology,
The Nunnery,
Thetford,
Norfolk,
IP24 2PU.

(Please requst that cheques rather than cash are sent and that the celebration is noted down. Cheques should be made out to 'British Trust for Ornithology' ).

We can send you a certificate to show how much you have raised.

A unique gift?

Alternatively, if you would like to surprise a friend or loved one with a unique gift, we can produce a personalised certificate and letter acknowledging a donation made in their name. The gift could support a particular appeal or could support the full range of the work carried out by the BTO. Contact our Fundraising Team on 01842 750050 or email fundraising [at] bto.org.

Thank you! BTO is the UK’s leading independent bird research charity contributing to knowledge about birds. Data collected by BTO volunteers is crucial to their conservation and makes a real difference to the future of Britain's birds.
