Acoustic Pipeline
BTO’s Acoustic Pipeline provides tools for detecting and identifying birds, bats and other wildlife in audible and ultrasonic sound recordings.
Alphabetical list of birds (UK)
Search our alphabetical list of regularly occurring UK bird species that appear within our BirdFacts database.
Atlas Mapstore
Browse the maps from the projects carried out in 1968–72, 1988–91 and 2008–11 breeding seasons and the 1981/82–1983/84 and 2007/08–2010/11 winters.
Avian Influenza EU – Migration Mapping Tool
Provides information of the migratory connectivity of 50 bird species in Europe, primarily to inform management of avian influenza (bird flu) outbreaks and the risks of other disease transmission by birds. See EURING for more detail.
BirdFacts Places
Find species lists, seasonality, trends and important bird areas for a UK county, island or area, or, by Local Nature Recovery Strategy area (LANS).
BirdFacts Species
Find status, trends, distribution and conservation evidence for all birds that have been recorded in the wild in the UK, plus many non-native species that have become established here.
Birds on your doorstep
Use your postcode to find key information about the changing fortunes of birds in your area, based on data collected by BTO and partner organisations.
Bird Trends Explorer
An interactive tool for exploring how bird abundance and other key measures of bird population health are changing through time in the UK and constituent countries.
BirdTrends report
BTO and its Partners collate data gathered by many thousands of volunteer citizen scientists on the status of UK breeding bird populations, both in terms of numbers and demographic rates, to form the annual BirdTrends report.
Data Reports
BTO Data Reports provide rigorous scientific information to inform fieldwork decisions and desk studies for Ecological Impact Assessment of potential development sites in the UK. (You can also request our survey data for free.)
EURING
EURING is the coordinating organisation for European bird ringing schemes. It promotes international collaboration on all aspects of scientific bird ringing, particularly in Europe and along the Eurasian African flyway.
Garden BirdWatch (GBW) visualisations
Data summaries for the core species that we monitor, including annual and long-term patterns of garden use, together with basic information on participation and submissions.
Migration Atlas
The Eurasian African Bird Migration Atlas maps and analyses the movements of 300 bird species, drawing on data gathered by European Ringing Schemes over more than a century and collated by the EURING databank.
Online Ringing Report (Phenology)
Graphs showing how many birds are breeding or moulting in different weeks of the year and how this relates to the number of nest records submitted and to the timing of breeding over the past five years.
Retrapping Adults for Survival (RAS) Results
Annual survival rate estimates for adult birds, focusing primarily on species not encountered in large numbers during standard mist netting activities such as the Constant Effort Sites Scheme (CES).
Survey data requests
Data can be supplied from all our surveys. Further information about our surveys is also available for both currently active surveys and completed historical surveys. N.B. These are different from BTO Data Reports.
Species codes
Many BTO datasets use species codes, most commonly 2-letter or 5-letter codes e.g. BT or BLUTI for Blue Tit. These are useful in the field when taking written notes, or to enter records in the BirdTrack app.
Wader Project / Sensitivity Map
Produced in partnership with the Forestry Commission using Bird Atlas 2007-11 data modelled with a range of environmental datasets to predict relative abundances of 10 species of breeding wader.
WeBS Report Online
Allows the browsing of Wetland Bird Survey data, organised into WeBS Alerts and the WeBS Annual Report (represented by Numbers & Trends and Low Tide Counts tabs).
