You can get started straight away and begin recording the birds  and other wildlife you see in your garden.

How to get started

To take part, you'll need a free BTO account. This only takes a couple of minutes to set up.

  1. Log in (if you already have an account), or create your free BTO account
  2. Go to “Sign Up for Projects
  3. Select Garden BirdWatch and click “Register

You don’t need to be an expert, just record the birds and other wildlife you recognise.


Support Garden BirdWatch (£17/year)

If you would like to support Garden BirdWatch, you can contribute £17 a year. Your support helps us continue this long-term survey and gives you:

  • A copy of the acclaimed 220-page Garden Birds and Other Wildlife (RRP £14.99), which will help you identify and learn more about your garden wildlife.
  • Our quarterly magazine Bird Table, available online or via post.
  • Expert advice from BTO to help you identify, understand and look after the wildlife in your garden.
  • Our weekly e-newsletter, packed with information on recording and identifying garden wildlife, and news from the GBW community.
