BTO Youth Nest Quest Live

Join BTO Youth Volunteers Alice & Amira for an interactive evening of talks from Guests involved in the BTO Nest Record Scheme as they talk a bit about their work.

Event Description

Join BTO Youth Reps Alice and Amira as they host an evening of talks from Guests involved in the BTO Nest Record Scheme.

For this first session we will be hearing from Lara, Frank & Emma you can find out more about what they do in their bio's below.

This session is open to anyone under the age of 30 wanting to find out more about how the BTO Nest Record Scheme works, how to monitor and find nests and to hear stories from out in the field! This directly suppliments the ongoing Nest Quest!

Lara:

"Lara mainly monitors the nests of heathland birds of the Quantock Hills. Much of her spring and summer is spent wandering the hills and hiding in heather in search of Stonechats, Linnets, and the ever-elusive Dartford Warblers!"

Frank:

"Working mainly in Sweden with Birdlife Sweden for the last few breeding seasons, Frank has monitored and surveyed the nests and chicks of 17 Wader species, 5 Tern species and a range of other waterfowl and coastal birds. He now works with the RSPB in the Forest of Bowland, surveying for our 5 main upland breeding waders with a focus on Curlew, finding nests for fencing, to fight ground predation and livestock, and monitoring chicks for productivity and fledging success."

Emma:

"Emma records open and cavity nesting species in SW England, Devon.

Monitoring and nest recording at boxes (and other tree features) is her main focus which includes resident species such as Blue Tit, Great Tit, Marsh Tit, Nuthatch, Grey Wagtail, Dipper, Barn Owl, tawny owl and wren, and migrant species such as Pied Flycatcher, Redstart and Spotted Flycatcher."

You can ask our team any and all questions about nest recording and Nest Quest
