A large thrush, with striking orange and black plumage, that breeds in the coastal redwood forests of western Canada and Alaska.

Varied Thrush is an extremely rare visitor to Britain, added to the British List on the basis of an individual seen at Nanquidno, Cornwall in November 1982.
