Initiatives funded by this 2018 appeal helped to cement BTO’s reputation for high-quality science, volunteer engagement and communications and generated significant ongoing income from a range of different sources. Summary
The Secure Our Future Appeal helped fund a significant review of our scientific work, an assessment conducted by an independent panel of experts and published openly for anyone to access. The panel concluded that “BTO has had a remarkable impact on policy and practice, given its size and resources”.
We have since been able to use the report, and the panel’s comments and recommendations, to strengthen our reputation and support further funding applications and partnership proposals.
An Agenda for Change
The appeal also helped fund a horizon-scanning summit. We convened leaders from all parts of the environment sector to identify potential opportunities and threats, to assist with our future planning.
This work resulted in the development of a new manifesto for action – BTO’s An Agenda for Change, which was launched at a reception at the House of Lords in 2020.
