You can get started straight away and begin recording the birds and other wildlife you see in your garden.

How to get started
To take part, you'll need a free BTO account. This only takes a couple of minutes to set up.
- Log in (if you already have an account), or create your free BTO account
- Go to “Sign Up for Projects”
- Select Garden BirdWatch and click “Register”
You don’t need to be an expert, just record the birds and other wildlife you recognise.
Support Garden BirdWatch (£17/year)
If you would like to support Garden BirdWatch, you can contribute £17 a year. Your support helps us continue this long-term survey and gives you:
- A copy of the acclaimed 220-page Garden Birds and Other Wildlife (RRP £14.99), which will help you identify and learn more about your garden wildlife.
- Our quarterly magazine Bird Table, available online or via post.
- Expert advice from BTO to help you identify, understand and look after the wildlife in your garden.
- Our weekly e-newsletter, packed with information on recording and identifying garden wildlife, and news from the GBW community.
Choose how you’d like to pay:
- Annual Direct Debit – 12 months’ rolling subscription to GBW (£17 / year).
- Credit or Debit card – 12 months’ subscription to GBW (£17) with the option to renew at the end of the year.
- If you are already supporting the project, you can renew your annual subscription.
Taking part is always free, this is a way to support the project if you'd like to.
