Euring DataBank Manager
Euring (European Union for Bird Ringing) was established in 1963 to facilitate cooperation and exchange of data between the different Ringing Schemes across Europe. A way in which it does this is through operating the Euring DataBank (EDB). The EDB currently consists of more than 40 million records of bird encounters from over 40 schemes. These data form a valuable resource for both conservation and research purposes and have been used by a wide range of interested parties. The EDB is currently hosted by BTO and the working language of Euring is English.
The day-to-day operation of the EDB is undertaken by the EDB Manager under the guidance of the Euring Board and with technical support from BTO staff. The key roles of the DataBank Manager are to receive data updates from individual schemes, work with them to correct errors, and to supply extracts of these data on appropriate request, following agreed guidelines regarding data ownership and charging.
We are looking for someone methodical, who would enjoy communicating with and supporting schemes of varying sizes and is comfortable operating computers and handling data files. An interest in ringing, and the uses to which data will be put, is essential, but detailed computing and/or software knowledge is NOT required as training and support will be provided.
For more information, read the EDB role description. Please direct any queries or expressions of interest in the role to Rob Robinson, Euring Chair (rob.robinson@bto.org).
