This event is aimed at training young people on how to record nests for the BTO Nest Record Scheme This event will trach young people the basics of how to find nests, including the different techniques that can be used. We will be giving information on how to monitor nests safely and responsibly and how to identify the nests that you find. We will walk around Wat Tyler Country Park, identifying the birds we see by sight and sound. There maybe the chance to watch some birding ringing if the weather allows. Birds that could be seen during this event could include warblers such as Blackcaps and Whitethroats, finches, tits, and waterbirds. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about BTO surveys. Open to beginner, but any level is welcome to join.
The event is free to attend and open to young people between the ages of 12 and 25. Please note, under 16s will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian and 16-17 year olds will need to complete a consent form prior to attending. Consent forms will be sent following registration. Completed forms must be sent to youth@bto.org before the event.
Please note that there are toilets and a cafe on site, please bring plenty of water and a packed lunch with you. The area this event is taking part in is Wheelchair freindly, this event is therefore suitable for wheelchair users.
Nearby bus and train services are available, and support can be offered if required.
Please bring binoculars if you have them (we will be able to provide a small number to share amongst attendees).
