This event offers the eciting opportunity to experience a guided walking safari into the heart of Knepp Estate, the renowned UK rewilding project - we will explore some of the 3,500 acres of stunning natural habitat.
We will have the opportunity to observe the Knepp free roaming large herbivores - their "big 5" - Longhorn Cattle, Tamworth Pigs, Red Deer, Fallow Deer, and Exmoor Ponies! The safari will dive into the key principles of rewilding and how each plays a role in shaping the habitat and its biodiversity. We will also learn about Knepp's White Stork and Beaver reintroduction projects!
The month of May is an excellent time to visit for birds, with the arrival of Cuckoos, Nightingales, and Turtle Doves among many other migrant species. There is also the potential for a bird ringing demonstration on the day, however, this will be time and weather dependent.
Please note that the safari involves walking for 2-3 hours on unevent ground, there will be multpile opportunities to pause, discuss and observe Knepp wildlife. All participants should bring a packed lunch and we will sit and eat lunch together during the event. Please also bring water, suncream and wear long trousers and comfortable walking shoes.
Open to beginners, but any level is welcome to join.
The event is free to attend and open to young people between the ages of 18 and 25. We aim to create a welcoming, supportive space where participants can connect, learn and enjoy nature without pressure or judgement. Please let us know of any allergies or accessibility needs in advance.
Please note that there are toilets on the estate, please bring plenty of water and a packed lunch with you. Nearby bus and train services are available, and support can be offered if required.
Please bring binoculars if you have them (we may be able to provide a small number to share amongst attendees).
