This training involves two online sessions of about 2 hours. An optional field session, held at the Nunnery Lakes, Thetford, will take place between the two online sessions. Participants will be encouraged to take part in various activities to support learning, and there will be opportunities to ask questions and discuss different scenarios.
Both online sessions will be recorded so you can catch up with any elements you miss if you are unable to attend.
The sessions sessions will cover the following topics:
ONLINE SESSION 1: Tuesday 3 March, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
- Bird identification by sight and sound
- Bird breeding biology and its implications
- Data and recording
FIELD SESSION: Wednesday 4 March, 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Optional)
- Practice skills learnt in the first online session
ONLINE SESSION 2: Friday 6 March, 9:30–11:30 a.m.
- Field Session follow-up
- Legislation
- Conservation status and other considerations
- Applying principles
- Discovering active nests during groundworks
The training will be run by BTO staff Nick Moran and Rob Jaques, both experienced birdwatchers, surveyors and trainers.
