Event Description

Join BTO Youth and the Essex Birdwatching Society on a guided walk around Abberton Reservoir nature reserve, listening to the different songs and calls of the birds which call the reserve home including the wonderful Nightingale. We will help talk through identification features and tips on how to remember the birds’ different songs as well as helping you learn more about their breeding ecologies. This will help with species ID for those who might like to take part in the Breeding Bird Survey. Open to beginners, but any level is welcome to join.

The event is free to attend and open to young people between the ages of 12 and 25. Please note, under 16s will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian and 16-17 year olds will need to complete a consent form prior to attending. Consent forms will be sent following registration. Completed forms must be sent to youth@bto.org before the event.

The walk will be circular 1 mile route. Please note that this route has Gravel paths so may not be suitable for wheelchair access. There are toilets and a cafe on site, but please bring plenty of water and a packed lunch/snacks with you.

Transport options in this area are limited but free parking is available onsite, and support can be offered if required.

Please bring binoculars if you have them (we will be able to provide a small number to share amongst attendees).

This event is run with the support of BTO & Essex Birdwatching Society. If you have any questions, please email youth@bto.org.
