Feathers and Fun - Creative Birding for Beginners (under 16s)

Join BTO Youth Representatives Liliana for a relaxed, beginner-friendly introduction to birding at Forest Farm Nature Reserve in Cardiff. Run with the help of the Cardiff Local Nature Partnership, the session combines birdwatching with creativity, giving participants the chance to observe birds closely and explore them through drawing and simple nature crafts.

Event Description

This event is free and open to under 16s. All participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


Parents/guardians do not need to book a ticket.


What to expect:

  • A short guided walk to the canal and bird hides
  • Opportunities to observe birds and learn basic identification tips
  • Fun, creative activities inspired by the birds you’ve seen
  • Making biodegradable bird feeders from oranges that you can take home!
  • A relaxed and supportive environment for beginners

The event is designed to be friendly and accessible for beginners, so no prior knowledge or equipment is needed.

 

Accessibility:
The walk follows flat, accessible paths, suitable for wheelchairs and those with reduced mobility. Seating is available during creative activities and in bird hides. Toilets are available at the Warden’s Lodge.

BTO Youth events are designed to help young people connect with nature, develop wildlife skills and meet others with similar interests. Many events are led by our Youth Representatives - young volunteers who organise local activities to help others get involved in birdwatching and nature.
