Essex (Northeast)

Essex NE provides a rich and diverse habitat for a variety of birds, butterflies and other wildlife. With a geology of clay and sand, Hamford Water lying to the north and the rivers Colne and Blackwater to the south reveal many creeks and channels.

The nature reserve at Abberton Reservoir is an important site for wildfowl and there is much in the way of arable farmland and small woodland scattered across the Essex NE area.

Off the beaten track there are many narrow lanes and leafy by-ways which provide sanctuary from the rush of the main roads.
