Mockingbirds are a family of American birds noted for their ability to mimic other birds, and indeed, many other noises. Thrush sized with long tails, they spend most of their time hopping around in the undergrowth, feeding mostly on invertebrates, but also fruit and berries. Most species are rather drably coloured being brownish above and pale below. They generally live in pairs, but in some species young from previous broods will remain near the nest and help raise subsequent broods.
Three species have turned up in Britain, though only an very few times each.
