Thraupidae - Tanagers
The tanagers are a large family of brightly coloured species, restricted to the Americas, particularly tropical South America. They are very diverse family of sparrow to starling sized birds which feed on seeds, fruit, insects or nectar, according to species. While the tropical species are non-migratory, a few species fly north to breed in temperate North America. Two of these species are extremely rare vagrants to Britain.
