What is Girls Go Birding?

BTO Youth Girls Go Birding event logo

Girls Go Birding is a series of free BTO Youth events for young people aged 25 and under. They are open to cis women, trans women, and those identifying as female and non-binary. This event comprises a guided walk along the river and among the trees to look for birds, followed by an (optional) warm drink and a natter at the cafe.

We aim to create a welcoming, supportive space where participants can connect, learn and enjoy nature without pressure or judgement. Respect and inclusivity are central to this event, and we're committed to making everyone feel safe and valued.

  • Everyone attending a BTO Youth Event must follow our Code of Conduct. We reserve the right to remove anyone from our events who does not abide by the Code of Conduct.
  • This event is run with the support of BTO. If you have any questions, please email youth@bto.org.

What to bring

Please ensure you bring water and a snack, or money to purchase food or drinks at the cafe (9am-4pm). You'll also need weather-appropriate clothing and footwear.

You can bring binoculars and other birding equipment if you have it and you'd like to, but they're not essential!

Accessibility

This event is wheelchair accessible (route via even pathway), and we're happy to adjust activities to accommodate your accessibility needs. Nearby bus and train services are available, and support can be offered if required. Please let us know in advance at youth@bto.org.

Toilets are available at the meeting point.

Under 18s

After registering, participants under 18 will need to complete and sign a consent form with their parent(s)/guardian(s). Completed forms must be sent to youth@bto.org before the event.
