Glut of grey geese!

18 Nov 2011 European White-fronted Geese by Stuart Elsom

European White-fronted Geese and Tundra Bean Geese have been a feature of the last week or so, with unusually high numbers arriving as far afield as Fair Isle and Cornwall. In recent years, fewer European White-fronted Geese have been wintering on this side of the North Sea, whilst numbers have been increasing in the Netherlands. This 'short-stopping' may be a result of milder winters meaning that these birds don't have to travel so far to escape the winter weather.
