The BirdTrack map for Hawfinch highlights the very patchy distribution of this shy, difficult to find species. There are, however, two 10-km squares where the species has already been recorded in BirdTrack more than 25 times in 2011. The next few weeks offer the best chance to find Hawfinches at well known sites as they will still be in winter flocks, before dispersing to breed in late March / April.
