Update to EuroBirdPortal

The EuroBirdPortal project, which began last year, collates bird records from European recording schemes, including BirdTrack. This combined dataset can be viewed through the demonstration viewer on the EuroBirdPortal website. Initially, distribution maps were available for 50 species across four years (2010–2013). In June, this exciting tool was further enhanced by the addition of data from 2014.

Last April, the project received a significant LIFE preparatory grant from the EU to further develop the system. The main aims are to expand the coverage of the demonstration viewer to include most of Europe, as well as to make it available as close to real time as possible. If you have been birding in eastern Europe, please do submit your sightings through the BirdTrack global data entry portal to help with this and the ongoing European Breeding Bird Atlas.
