Little Egrets on a high
02 Dec 2011Little Egrets are continuing to expand their range in Britain and Ireland, and whilst the reporting rate usually drops to about 10% at this time of year, it has remained more or less constant at 15% this autumn. Whether this is a product of the unusually mild November weather, or the ever-increasing population, is not clear but the pattern is certainly striking. The 2011 distribution map shows that there are 'hotspots' (10-km squares with 25+ records) as far north as Teesside.
