Waxwings continue to arrive

13 Jan 2017 Waxwing by Karl Bishop

October and early November 2016 saw one of the largest arrivals of Waxwings into Britain in recent years. Large flocks were noted on the east coast, and especially in Scotland with a peak count of 600.

There was a noticeable drop-off in reports on your complete lists in early December, perhaps as birds began to disperse inland, perhaps to less well-watched areas. Since then, Waxwings have been recorded in Wales and even as far west as Ireland. As available berry crops decline in the coming weeks, keep an eye for any arriving in your garden or local patch and don't forget to BirdTrack them!
