Below are some solutions to technical issues you may encounter when registering and/or entering observations. If you have run into difficulty and your question is not answered by one of the FAQs below, please nbc [at] bto.org (subject: NBC%20technical%20problem) (contact us) and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I've forgotten my password.

I want to change some information about my nestbox.

If you have changed or relocated one of your nest boxes—e.g. changed the height or aspect—and you want to update the information held about the nest box, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the NBC Data Home page as normal.
  2. Select My boxes/nests from the Your Options menu.
  3. Select the Remove box/nest button.
  4. Find your box/nest in the list and check the Remove this nest box box.
  5. Go to the bottom of the list of boxes/nests and click on the Remove all checked boxes/nests from my list button.
  6. Click on the Back to data home button.
  7. Select My boxes/nests from the Your Options menu again.
  8. Complete the form and submit the details. Confirm the box/nest registration when asked.
  9. Go back to the NBC Data Home page or one of the Enter observations buttons to begin entering observations.

I need to update details about my garden.

If something about your garden has changed—e.g. you've changed the amount of food you provide—and you want to update the information held about your garden, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the NBC Data Home page as normal.
  2. Select My gardens from the Your Options menu.
  3. Select Remove garden or site the Garden Options menu.
  4. Find your garden in the list and check the This garden has changed - remove it so I can re-register it (leave its nest boxes/nests active) box.
  5. Go to the bottom of the list of gardens and click on the Remove all checked gardens from my list’ button.
  6. Select Re-register a garden to add details of your garden again. You will have to enter all the details again, not just the bit that's changed. Be sure to enter the postcode the same as you did before. Submit the information you have entered and confirm the garden re-registration when asked.
  7. Go back to NBC Data Home to contrinue. There is no need to re-enter your nest box details - they will still be there.

I've moved house and would like to register a new garden.

To remove details about your old garden and add your new one, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the NBC Data Home page as normal.
  2. Select My gardens from the Your Options menu.
  3. Select Remove garden or site the Garden Options menu.
  4. Find your garden in the list and check the Remove garden and all its nest boxes box.
  5. Go to the bottom of the list of gardens and click on the Remove all checked gardens from my list’ button.
  6. Select Re-register a garden to add details of your new garden. Complete the form and submit the details. Confirm the garden registration when asked.
  7. Select Register a box/nest to begin adding details of nest boxes. Complete the form and submit the details. Confirm the box/nest registration when asked.
  8. Go back to the NBC Data Home page or one of the Enter observations buttons to begin entering observations.
