Using Breeding status codes in BirdTrack

07 Mar 2018 Mallard duckling by Ric Jackson

With the spring fast approaching, a useful feature to be aware of is the breeding status dropdown menu, which allows you to add evidence of breeding for any bird species you record on your lists. The data gathered is invaluable for county recorders, as well as the Rare Breeding Birds Panel in Britain and its counterpart in Ireland. The breeding evidence codes should only be used in spring and summer, except for early breeders or out-of-season breeding records.

If you are not familiar with the codes, there is a handy table  which outlines the codes used in more detail. Correctly categorising ducklings can cause confusion; these should be noted as 'Recently fledged' (FL) unless it seems likely they did not hatch locally.
