Upland Rovers wanted

18 Jan 2018 Meadow Pipit by the Anne Cotton

Given the access challenges and often inclement weather, trends of upland breeding birds in the UK are some of the least well understood, due to the limited volume of data collected. Upland Rovers, a spin-off from the BTO/JNCC/RSPB Breeding Bird Survey – aims to change this by allowing one-off visits to randomly chosen 1-km squares in the uplands to improve the monitoring of species including Curlew, Greenshank and upland breeding Meadow Pipit.

If you can confidently identify upland birds by sight and sound, it's a great excuse to explore and birdwatch hidden corners of the UK, and simultaneously contribute to this important survey. To get started, check the interactive map for available squares.
