Update on the BirdTrack Beta portal

23 Nov 2018

In late September we updated the BirdTrack beta homepage with several new features. This is to become the new home of BirdTrack with the existing UK and Ireland site being turned off in the near future. We urge you to start familiarising yourself with the new beta homepage and appreciate any feedback you may have, you can login using your existing username and password.

The taxonomy used in BirdTrack has been updated and now follows the IOC list as adopted by the BOU earlier in the year. This brings a few changes including the splitting of the Bean Goose and Isabelline Shrike complexes. If you have recorded any of these species affected by the changes, and know which taxon you saw, you can update your records to ensure that your species totals are accurate.

We are also continuing work on the BirdTrack app which will add new functionality such as adding ‘Age and Plumage’ details to sightings. The usability of the apps has also been improved to make them easier and more intuitive to navigate, and together with the taxonomy changes will appear on the next app release. As we progress with these developments, we are very grateful for any support you can give to BirdTrack.
