New study on predator and prey relationship

23 Nov 2018

Researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Germany investigated the daily activity patterns of raptors and their potential prey. While this had been extensively studied for passerines, there was comparatively little information on how birds of prey focused their hunting efforts across the day.

Using data from BirdTrack amongst other sources, the research focused on 7 species of raptor from Europe and North America and their associated prey species. The study found that there appears to be a relationship between the activity peaks of predators and their likely prey.
