Adding value to your sightings

12 Feb 2018 Extra options

With around 6 million records submitted annually, BirdTrack offers an unprecedented database of birds in Britain and Ireland. You can add more value to your sightings by logging them as complete lists, ideally with start and end times. Complete lists are particularly useful for tracking changes in arrival and departure times of migratory species, whilst recording the duration of your visits gives an indication of observer effort.

The 'Optional details' submenu gives you the option to enter details on plumage, habitat and activity for example. You can also choose to provide detailed locational information for particular sightings using the 'Pinpoint' feature. There is also the option of marking a certain observations as 'Sensitive' if, for example, it involves a sighting of a rare bird on private or otherwise inaccessible land, and which hides such records from BirdTrack's public outputs.
