Breeding Bird Survey: Can you help?

15 Mar 2017 Surveyor by David Tipling/BTO

The Breeding Bird Survey is an essential tool for monitoring the populations of widespread breeding birds, as well as mammals in the UK. The data generated help to flag species that may be showing changes in population. The results are used in scientific research and to inform conservation efforts.

Taking part is easy and requires just two morning visits between April and June to an allocated square. Visits to upland or more remote sites are particularly welcome. To register or to find out more, get in touch with your Regional Organiser. If you are based in the Republic of Ireland, contact Dick Coombes at Birdwatch Ireland about the similar Countryside Bird Survey.
