Breeding Bird Survey: Can you help?

18 Apr 2016 Blackcap by Gary Loader

Now in its 23rd year, the Breeding Bird Survey is an essential tool for monitoring the populations of widespread breeding birds in the UK. The data generated help to flag species that may be showing changes in population. It is further used in scientific research and to direct conservation efforts.

Taking part is very straightforward and requires only two morning visits between April and June to an allocated square. Visits to upland or more remote sites are particularly welcome. To register or to find out more, get in touch with your Regional Organiser. If you are based in the Republic of Ireland, get in touch with Dick Coombes at BirdWatch Ireland about the similar Countryside Bird Survey.
