BirdTrack and Garden BirdWatch
16 Nov 2015A regular query we receive is how to use BirdTrack alongside the BTO Garden BirdWatch (GBW) survey. With birds returning to gardens in search of food as winter approaches, it's a good time to revisit this topic.
Garden BirdWatchers consistently record the maximum counts of the species using their garden over the course of a week, in order to monitor how and when birds use gardens. Each GBW submission covers a whole week, and doesn't include birds flying over. Garden BirdWatchers can use BirdTrack to log fly-overs or birds outside their garden. Only mark BirdTrack records of birds in your garden as complete lists if they are from a focused period of observation, ideally outdoors.
