Your efforts counted

01 Dec 2014 Golden Plovers by Jamie Medford

In October we asked you to log any counts you were able to make of Golden Plover (and Lapwing) to help with the International Golden Plover Survey 2014. Nearly 300 counts, totalling more than 58,000 Golden Plovers, were added to BirdTrack from across Britain and Ireland over the relevant WeBS Count weekend – a big thank you to everyone who took part!

Early indications are that numbers of Golden Plovers in northwest Europe in October 2014 were slightly lower than expected – perhaps associated with the mild autumn temperatures prevalent at the time. Full results will be published once all the data from across the species' range are collated and analysed, so keep an eye on the International Wader Study Group's (new!) website.
