New BirdTrack App feature

A handy new feature has recently been added to the BirdTrack App for Android and iPhone (iOS7) smartphones: users can now select the radius from which their list of nearby sites is displayed!

The App is designed for in-field use, rather than as an alternative to the online data entry system. For that reason – and because some users have hundreds, if not thousands of sites – the App originally only offered a user's existing sites from a 5 mile radius of their present location. However, many birdwatchers travel around during a day's birding and if their observations from one spot were not logged before they moved on somewhere else, the App would not always offer the places they had visited earlier in the day.

Now, through user preferences/settings, the radius from which a user's sites are returned can be adjusted to 5, 10, 20 or 50 miles from current location. On iOS7 devices, this is done by pressing More... > User settings Sites within > then select preferred radius (see image, right). On Android devices, the procedure is Go to management options > Account prefs > Location distance > then select preferred radius.
