Crested Tit

Restricted to the Highlands of Scotland, the Crested Tit (emblem of the SOC) is one of the UK's most evocative species. Their distinctive head gear makes them easy to identify when seen well but beware of wind-ruffled Coal Tits, which can appear crested. The two months are a good time to search for Crested Tits as they establish breeding territories. This year in particular, all records of this and other species in the Highlands will be vital to determine the effects of the cold weather on bird populations.
