Still no confirmation from Larry

25 Feb 2019

Even though the locations we are getting from Larry’s tag are of poor quality they all show him the rainforest to the north of the Teke Plateau in northern Congo, so we are sure this is where he is. Once he pops out of the dense rainforest we should begin to receive better quality locations.

Larry on the move?

11 Feb 2019
We received a couple of poor locations from Larry's tag that show him to the north of the Teke Plateau in dense rainforest. However, like the last time we heard from him we will have to wait for better quality locations to confirm this.

Larry on the move?

29 Jan 2019
During the last couple of days we received a series of locations from Larry's tag that show him on the Teke Plateau, Congo, 522km (324 miles) north of his mid-winter location in Angola. We will have to wait for some better locations to confirm this and for it to appear on his map, but it does look like Larry is on his way back.

Larry settled

03 Jan 2019
Larry hasn't moved much since mid-December, other than short distances. He is currently around 50km (30 miles) from the coastal town of N'zeto, Angola.

Larry settled

20 Dec 2018
Larry hasn't moved much during tha last couple of weeks but data from his tag shows that he is alive and well. He is one of four tagged Cuckoos that are wintering within a 30 mile radius in the same area of forest in Angola. The other three are Lambert, Knepp and PJ.

Larry has made it

11 Dec 2018
For the fourth time since his tag was fitted, Larry has made it to his winter location in Angola. He is currently just under 200km (just over 100 miles) northeast of Luanda and in an area of forest he has used several times before. He is one of five of our tagged Cuckoos that are currently in Angola. During his time wearing a tag he has travelled in excess of 56,000km (35,000 miles).

Larry settled in the rainforest

30 Nov 2018
Larry is still settled in the DRC, in the rainforest to the east of Lake Mai. He is in particularly dense rainforest and not moving very far between fixes. In 2015 he left the rainforest for his mid-winter site in Angola on 6 November. In 2016 and 2017 he did the same on 13 October and 12 November respectively. With this in mind he could move south and west any day.

Larry has popped-up

14 Nov 2018
During the last few days we received a series of locations from Larry's tag that shows he is alive and well and is in the Congo rainforest just to the east of Lac Mai - Ndombe.

Larry has made it to Congo

19 Oct 2018
Having reported on 27 September that Larry was settled in Chad we then received a single location from his tag on 30 September showing that he had moved and was in Congo, just to the north of the Teke plateau. We haven't heard from his tag since. Looking at some of the data we receive from the tag, we can see that he was alive when we last heard from him but that the battery charge was very low. We hope that it is just a case of him being underneath the canopy of the forest and that the solar panel on the tag isn't getting much sunlight. Fingers crossed, he will 'pop-up' once the battery gets a better charge.

Larry still settled in Chad

27 Sep 2018
Larry has been settled in his post-desert stopover site for two months. In 2016 he moved south into the Congo basin on 29 Sept. However, in 2017 he didn't leave until 9 November. It will be interesting to see what he does this year.
