Although the region is called Surrey I do cover small amounts of West Sussex, Berkshire and some of the London Boroughs. Likewise the Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Berkshire RRs cover a small amount of Surrey due to the way the BTO organise the Counties into 10 KM squares. As well as the RR for Surrey I am Membership Secretary for Surrey Bird Club. The Club runs field trips once a month and non-members are welcome and this is a good way to learn more about bird recognition if you want help this way. I have a number of active volunteers but need more especially as I am also the Local Organiser for the WeBS count in Surrey and London south of the Thames. My website gives much more information about the surveys for which that I am responsible and about the current sites I have that are looking for surveyors. There is one other bird club in Surrey, the Surbiton and District Bird Watching Society and they can be contacted through their Membership Secretary Gary Caine on 01372 468432 Surrey also has a number of active RSPB groups where field trips are held at least once a week and those groups have been very welcoming when I have attending one of their evening talks and have helped me recruit surveyors since I took up my post.
