Learn about the ecology of and threats faced by our internationally important breeding seabirds.

This course involves one online session of roughly one hour 45 minutes, with a trainer:participant ratio of about 1:30. Participants' microphones are muted during the session but there will be plenty of opportunities to interact and ask questions.

The training will be run by BTO staff Nick Moran, Emily Cuff, Jen Donelan and Viola Ross-Smith, all experienced birdwatchers, surveyors and trainers.

In order to participate you will need broadband of sufficient speed to view live video, and a computer with sound and ideally a webcam, or a tablet.

Seabird ecology

The session will begin by looking at the ecology and conservation status of our breeding seabirds, with a focus on auks, gulls and terns. The second part of the session will spotlight the fascinating movements and other new insights that BTO tracking work has revealed about Lesser Black-backed Gull and Arctic Skua.
