Hone your woodland bird identification skills and practice survey techniques for the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS).
Brush up on your woodland bird identification through a range of activities in the classroom and nearby woodland habitat. There will be particular focus on learning to recognise woodland birds by their songs and calls. Discover how these skills can be put to good use in the BBS and practise the methods with an experienced surveyor. The day will combine indoor and outdoor sessions (weather permitting) and will have a focus on improving confidence and skills to encourage participation.
This course aims to provide you with the following:
- Identification tips for a range of common woodland birds, particularly by sound.
- An introduction to the BBS and other BTO schemes including BirdTrack.
- Guidance on carrying out the BBS from experienced surveyors.
- Opportunity to practice the BBS in woodland habitats.
This 1-day course costs £5. It is specifically targeted to increase survey coverage of under-sampled habitats and areas, hence we are able to offer it at a heavily subsidised rate.
Refreshments are provided; please bring a packed lunch.
Online booking is available for this event but if you have any queries about booking a place, please email Anne.Cotton [at] bto.org or ring 01786 458021.
