Hone your upland bird identification skills and practice survey techniques for the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS)
Brush up on your upland bird identification skills and practice survey techniques for the Breeding Bird Survey in the uplands. Learn more about the BBS ‘Upland Rovers’ scheme and how to get involved. This scheme allows casual one-off visits to upland BBS squares and is a great way to explore new parts of Scotland while contributing valuable information. The day will combine indoor and outdoor sessions (weather permitting) and will have a focus on improving confidence and skills to encourage participation.
This course aims to provide you with the following:
- Identification tips for a range of common woodland birds, particularly by sound.
- An introduction to the BBS, 'Upland Rovers' and other BTO schemes including BirdTrack.
- Guidance on carrying out the BBS from experienced surveyors.
- Opportunity to practice the BBS in upland habitats.
This 1-day course costs £5. It is specifically targeted to increase survey coverage of under-sampled habitats and areas, hence we are able to offer it at a heavily subsidised rate.
Refreshments are provided; please bring a packed lunch.
Online booking is available for this event but if you have any queries about booking a place, please email Anne.Cotton [at] bto.org or ring 01786 458021.
