Learn and practise the survey methods for the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS)

Build your confidence with the Breeding Bird Survey methods with an experienced surveyor, and learn how you can put your skills to good use in this valuable survey. The day will combine indoor and outdoor sessions and focus on improving confidence and skills to encourage participation. This course will not cover bird identification: you will need to be able to identify widespread breeding birds by sight and sound.

This course aims to provide you with the following:

  • Guidance on carrying out the BBS from experienced surveyors.
  • Confidence in planning appropriate survey routes.
  • Familiarity with counting birds in distance bands.
  • Opportunity to practice the BBS to improve your observation and recording skills.

This course is specifically targeted to increase BBS coverage in Northern Ireland, hence we are able to offer it at no cost to participants.

Refreshments are provided; please bring a packed lunch.

Online booking is available for this event but if you have any queries about booking a place, please email Shane.Wolsey [at] bto.org or ring 02891 467947.
