A complete up-date of the original volume published in 1999. Several major developments have taken place since that time, most noticeable of which is the splitting of the globe-encircling Barn Owl into 9 different species. Several new taxa have also been discovered or more fully investigated, and all these changes have been incorporated into this new edition. The plates have been re-done to reflect these changes and to address some of the problems with the first edition, but this is never going to be an identification guide, but as a valuable source of reference for owl enthusiasts and researchers.
