Eagle

The book 'Eagle' is another addition in the 'Animal' series. It explores the interactions between humans and Eagles and how we have affected each other’s lives for thousands of years. The book starts with a look at the biology and evolution of the Eagle and shows how little is really known about the behaviour of Eagles in the wild. The remaining chapters explore the complex relationship humans have with Eagles, and how we put so much meaning in to their existence. For example in the times of the Romans: "During the funerals of Roman emperors, eagles were ceremonially released to take the soul up to the gods". From Greeks to Romans to current day America, Eagles have adorned flags, crests and other emblems and been looked upon as Gods but they have also suffered persecution as a threat to livestock, as well as poisoning through DDT and so on. This book includes beautiful pictures through history and gives a very comprehensive look at the diversity of roles Eagles have in cultures around the world.
